Dear Heggys,
I am orginally from Greentown, Ohio and lived there until I was 13 years old. All of my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. live in Canton and Alliance. Each time we would make the trip back home, the one place we always went was to Heggy's. Since we were living in Louisiana - at that time you could not ship to us - except in the winter. We would get some candy and bring it home with us. It was like having a little bit of home each time we ate it.
I have wonderful memories of being at Heggy's with my mother, who is now very ill. Thanks for sharing in my wonderful Ohio memories! I still miss the wonderful Buck-eye State!

Dear Heggys,
I am a grandmother with lots of "almost relatives" in Canton and North Canton, Ohio. Many years ago my sister married a North Canton boy, and Heggy's became a household word.
Whenever anyone comes to visit from Canton, or we visit there, the greatest gift is Heggy's chocolates.I just now realized that we can order "on line" so now we won't have to wait so long for the best candy in the world!
Please don't ever change a thing, there's none better.

Dear Heggys,
My name is Pat Latham and I was born and raised in Akron, however I have lived in Tucson, AZ since 1978. My grandmother, Margaret Texter is the one who first gave me Heggy's candies. She was an amazing woman, very much ahead of her time! She was the cafeteria manager for Coventry school district until her retirement, active in her church and a prominent member of Royal Neighbors. She worked most of her life, even before it was "acceptable". She was extremely intelligent, warm, and loving woman.There are many things I hold dear about my grandmother and smile when I think of them. She bowled twice a week well into her 80's, traveled exstensively, and she loved Heggy's candies!I remember as a child anticipating Christmas, because THAT is when we got Heggy's. I was one of 18 grandchildren and my Grandma would get enough for all of us. It was a very special treat and we all waited for it.
In 1978 my family moved to Arizona and Christmas became very different! Snow on cactus just isn't the same! My grandparents would come and spend the winters with us, which was a gift in itself, but Grandma would always bring us our candy....a piece of home, and the holiday.
Well, in the learly 80's grandpa passed away and grandma came to stay. She was always our favorite grandma, and she and my mother were very very close. My 2 oldest children grew up living with "Granny" and they adored her, as she did them and a 4th generation became hooked on our special Christmas candy! Unfortunately in 1989, I lost my grandma to cancer and I miss her every day. Here it is the day before Thanksgiving. I took some boxes of decorations out of the garage to get ready for the holidays, and there it was, a very old, faded Heggy's candy box that holds my most favorite and treasured decorations, many from grandma. I am not sure why, but heck everyone has a web page right? So I thought I would just check. I can't believe I found it!

I intend on giving this family back a tradition that had been lost for many years.

Holiday Honey Pecan Salmon Filets
|
|
Ingredients
1/4 cup butter, melted
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 1/2 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
1/2 cup Heggys Pecans (finely chopped)
4 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley
4 (6 ounce) fillets salmon
Salt and pepper to taste
parsley, lemon and orange for garnish

Directions
1) Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
2) In a small bowl, stir together butter, mustard, and honey. Set aside. In another bowl, mix together bread crumbs, Heggy's Pecans, and parsley.
3) Brush each salmon fillet lightly with honey mustard mixture, and sprinkle the tops of the fillets with the bread crumb mixture.
4) Bake salmon 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until it flakes easily with a fork. Season with salt and pepper, garnish with parsley, lemon and orange wedges and serve.
5) Don't forget to have plenty of Heggy's Chocolates and Candies on hand for a tasty after dinner treat.

Dear Heggys
I have fond memories coming to the Ben Heggy's Candy Store. Just when you are entering the store the smell of fresh candy being wrapped and stored in the bins were a great treat for us.
And looking to choose your favorite treat for the week. So, I after speaking with my sister on the phone back in July, I decided to find you on the web.
Great! Now, I can start over and reorder to try my favorites and new ones.

Dear Heggys
I have been a Heggy's fan as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl my parents took me to the West Tusc store for "cream cones". As an adult I discovered the wonderful candy. I will eat just about any of the dark chocolate items but my favorite would have to be the dark chocolate with vanilla cream.
Five years ago I re-married and moved from the Canton area to Utah. Shortly after that I moved to Chicago because of my husband's job requiring us to transfer. Even though my husband had also grown up in Canton he had never had Heggy's candy. That was quickly solved on our first trip home.He became such a convert that the first Valentine's Day after that I bought him a box via mail order. Now we make sure every trip back to Ohio includes a trip to Heggy's.
As I said, I now live in Chicago. All I heard when I moved here was how great the deep dish pizza is and about all the wonderful chocolate stores are. My husband and I have done our best to find out if this is true (and have the extra poundage to prove it) but there is nothing like Pizza Oven pizza or Heggy's chocolate. I work in an MIS Department and used to always tell everybody about Heggy's candy when they would bring in boxes of Fannie Farmer for our long nights. They all just laughed. On one of my trips I brought back a box just for work. Now they ask me when I'm coming home again so I can bring more and most have admitted it's the best they've ever had.
We've ordered mail order a few times but have to admit that it seems more of a treat if we wait till we come back or somebody comes to visit us. Everybody seems to have figured out the way to visit us is to come with a
bag/box of Heggy's.

Dear Heggys
I was so happy to find your website. It will save my Mom alot of work. I currently live outside of Atlanta, Georgia-12 hours away from Heggy's candy. We only get back up to visit friends and family once a year. I always make one or two trips to Heggy's to stock up and have wonderful goodies to take home with me.
My daughters favorite is your chocolate covered marshmellows-she tries to fill the biggest bag she can get her hands on and is thrilled to choose her own homemade candies out of the bin. Ive always given boxes of your fabulous candy as gifts, but when I moved away it was difficult. I ended up sending my Mom money to buy the candy for me and send them for me. Now that I see you are online, I'll be able to share these wonderful treats from home (and can get some for my family, too)

Dear Heggys
I was born on a farm just outside of East Canton. 11/12/46 I think the doctor's name was Stiener. I lived on that farm until 1950 then moved into Canton with my Uncle. I went to school right across the street at St. Peter's. That was my first time meeting with your candy shop. Later in life I got a gift from one of my vendors in Ohio, which was candy from your shop. Just by chance I tried looking you up on the web. Bingo there you were. I am very pleased to see that your company is still going strong. This brings back many childhood memories. Thanks.

Dear Heggys
As I was growing up, my parents, Ross and Cathy Reinhart owned a small candy store named the BEXLEY CANDY SHOPPE. We sold all varieties of HEGGYS CHOCOLATES. These chocolates were loved by all who frequented the candy shoppe. The gentleman, who came in once a week for a CHOCOLATE COVERED MARSHMALLOW, the young mother who would "sneak" in throughout the week for a TURTLE to gain that extra energy boost and of course, the widow who would purchase boxes and boxes of FRENCH MINTS to her friends all over the country.
I have so many fond memories of HEGGYS. We had a stray cat who would greet all of the customers at the front door. Needless to say, we named him HEGGY. The seasons revolved around HEGGYS....CHOCOLATE EASTER EGGS, MENORAHS, SANTA CLAUS, PEANUTS, CASHEWS, MIXED NUTS!
After my parents closed the candy shoppe they still drove each Christmas from Columbus to Canton to buy their friends and family HEGGYS CHOCOLATES. My father died last year right before the holidays. We continued the tradition of driving to Canton last year without him. As my mother and I drove away from the HEGGY FACTORY, we both shed a tear remembering. Along with that tear we laughed as we fondly remembered seeing my dad "stash" a bag of CHOCOLATE PEANUT CLUSTERS WITH CREAM under the car seat for the long drive back to Columbus.
Me? I still cannot pass up a CHOCOLATE HAYSTACK!
